Gossamer Blue Full of Stories

|
I've lost track of the number of layouts created with the April Kits from Gossamer Blue.  I whipped up this page after finding the photo in a stack of unscrapped pix; I had intended to use the photo on a different layout and had already matted and embellished it, so I had to trim it down and I love the end result of a tall skinny pic.  Something completely different for me!

We received a whole package of those lovely Jen Hadfield ampersands and I'm bound and determined to use them up.  The title at the bottom of the page is also different for me as I tend to add the title near the photo.  I fussy cut the words from an exclusive Life Pages 4x6 card.

I added clear gesso to the Shimelle text paper then did swipes of Distress Stain in Tumbled Glass, Fossilized Amber and Abandoned Coral; I used to get really hung up on colors matching perfectly to the page, but I've discovered I like using shades or tones of colors that compliment the layout.

Of course I've got tangled thread on the page, it seems I can't add an embellishment without some thread behind it.  I love this look and give Missy Whidden all the props for inspiring this look on my pages.  Sometimes transparent stickers gave me a bit of trouble because I love using patterned paper so much, but the hot air balloon and those florals from Shimelle really worked as an accent.

Have a great day :)

Mixed Media Monday Big Moment

|
 Hello, Happy Monday!

I created this page with April kits from Hip Kit Club; I looooooove that they offer a Color Kit each month to encourage mixed media on your scrapbook pages.  My layout features translucent embossing paste colored with the two Shimmerz products included in this month's kit.  The butterfly stencil was also in the Color Kit.

I used both the No Yolking and Oh Say Can U Sea Coloringz individually, then mixed the two together to create that green.  After the butterflies dried I flicked color, keeping the yellow to the yellow butterflies and so on.

I used the Pinkfresh alpha's to keep the yellow going across the page; The No Yolking took to the Simple Stories veneer perfectly!

To put it simply:  I love Hip Kits.

Hip Kit Club Life

|
Happy Friday everyone!  I created this page with April kits from Hip Kit Club, utilizing the lovely butterflies paper and some Shimmerz products.

I love the way the Simple Stories wood veneer takes the Shimmerz sprays, the color is so vibrant even after it dries.

I used tissue papers from my stash to mat the photo, along with a scrap of Pinkfresh Studios paper leftover from the March kit.  I'm usually not one to save my scraps (gasp!) but I've learned to do that with the papers from my Hip Kits.  The months flow beautifully from one to the next so you can mix the kits easily.

I'm also loving the sayings on the Pinkfresh washi strips.  Just perfect for scrapping life's moments.

Have a happy weekend!

Gossamer Blue Happiness

|
Hey guys!  I was going through photos and realized I didn't post this layout using Gossamer Blue April kits!  This was a page that I made after finishing my Life Pages album for March and wanted to use those adorable 2x2 cards from the LP kits.

I added lots of Maggie Holmes embellishments, there were so many great pieces in the April kits I couldn't hold back :)

This is a different look for me, in that there are lots of squares and a completely different layout of the embellishments then I normally do.  I typically cluster items around the photo and have lots of white space, but this time I changed it up and went across the page horizontally, with some white space at the bottom.

Hope you're having a lovely day :)

Gossamer Blue This Right Now

|
A layout without any layers?  Who am I?  Ha!  Ok, there's a few layers but not a single layer behind my photos.  I can't even believe myself.

I can't take credit for the use of the Pink Paislee acetate numbers as I've seen several others do similar things with them.  I used to hoard die cut numbers so I could use them individually to represent age on my layouts, but I've taken a new attitude towards my supplies and want to use them all!  All the embellishments!  All the time!  :)

I used the April Life Pages Kit, Main Kit and Bits & Pieces kits.  I fussy cut the "xo," "right now," and "everyday" from Life Pages cards; I love the Dear Lizzy brads and thought they made for a cute little embellishment cluster above the photos.

Spray inks from my stash finished this page.  Just ignore the spray ink I got on one of the photos :)

Mixed Media Monday Wonder

|
I'm starting a new series on my blog-Mixed Media Monday :)  I've totally fallen for adding gesso, inks, paints, pastes and all sorts to my scrapbook pages, so this is my tribute to where I am right now with creating pages that I love.

First up is a layout featuring Crate Paper products from the Wonder collection, along with some Dear Lizzy, 7 Paper and Simple Stories embellishments.  I used white gesso and a ton of products from Shimmerz on my background, highlighting this fab cut file from The Cut Shoppe.

I used gold dot tissue paper from Hazel & Ruby along with some gold metallic thread; I added Heidi Swapp gold Color Shine and Mister Huey's black spray ink to tie in the colors on the page.  I think black is my favorite accent color ever :)

I used a ton of my favorite liquid adhesive, Scotch Quick Dry, on this page.  It seem like you need that extra bit of liquid glue when you're adhering to paper prepped with gesso.

My girly's BFF is the little guy in the pic; they've been friends since they were almost 1 and I was so happy they had their first year of pre-school together.  Sadly, that's ending for the next school year as Q's bestie is heading to a different school.  We'll still have lots of playtime but it's a bummer :(  So I'll scrap all the pix I have of the two of them together while I can!

Photo cred to Miss Joey at Q's school!

Gossamer Blue Sock Love

|
These April kits have been super inspiring and I've created tons of layouts this month!  Today I'm sharing a silly photo layout :)

It was a cold day and I had on one of my favorite pairs of socks, these blue speckled socks that I've had for at least 10 years.  I still had the background cut file I used on a previous layout and thought the pattern would be cute against the navy stripes.  I applied Shimmerz Dazzlerz through the stencil.

Jen Hadfield die cuts, thread, Thickers and one Amy Tangerine rubber element were added as embellishments.  I kept the color scheme to a few shades of blues and pinks.

The die cuts have gold foil so my final step was adding Heidi Swapp Gold Color Shine splatters on my page.

This isn't a super fancy page but I think it's one of my favorites from the April Gossamer Blue kits. Happy Creating :)

Gossamer Blue Hello

|
Yellow is a new favorite of mine; I used to really dislike it but over the last few years I've fallen in love with this sunshiney color.

The April kits from Gossamer Blue have a whole lot of yellow love in them, and what better way to celebrate yellow than with a daffodil photo?

I used lemonade Mister Huey's to smoosh some color on the white card stock.  I didn't use any gesso this time because the card stock is textured with lines and I wanted that to show up.  I sprayed the Mister Huey's on plastic, added a squirt of water and then squished it right on the paper.

The acetate pieces are from Pink Paislee, found in the Bits & Pieces kit this month.  They actually spell out the word Hello and I didn't intend to cover the word as much as I did, but I think you can sort of tell what it says ;)

I picked black & white and yellow papers from the 6x6 paper pad in Bits & Pieces to mat the photo, then tucked other die cuts here and there.  The blush pink items were used as an accent color.

Have a sunny day!

Gossamer Blue Love You Always

|
My girly loves her Grampy.  They are two peas in a pod.

A shared love of chocolate is probably their number one thing in common ;)

The You & Me card is a cut apart sheet from Jen Hadfield.  The other cards are just as dreamy.  I used the Maggie Holmes chipboard pieces and stickers to embellish my page, along with  a thin layer of white gesso with some Shimmerz products on my background.  I adore those hearts by Amy Tangerine.

April Kits from Gossamer Blue are truly dreamy.  I used the Main Kit, Main Add-on and Life Pages #3.  Thanks for checking out my blog today, hope your day is as lovely as you ;)

Hip Kit Club Beauty

|
Hey there, I have another layout using the March Scrapbook Kit from Hip Kit Club.  I used the single butterfly from the exclusive cut file, enlarged it and copied/pasted to get my background started.  I backed two of each butterfly with patterned papers from the kit.

I used Shimmerz paints to add matching colors to the white card stock; I added the paint to a piece of packaging then smooshed it on the card stock.  I used the same patterned papers to mat my photo (which apparently I adhered a bit crooked!), then tucked some of the Basic Grey elements in for additional layers.

I used two more pieces of Basic Grey ephemera on top of another die cut butterfly, Pinkfresh washi strips and veneer plus Thickers to complete my page.

Photo cred:  the fabulous Rebekah Baier, thanks for this amazing pic of my girly!

Gossamer Blue The Sweet Life Baby

|
This is one of those layouts that I thought about a lot.  I finished it before bed and woke up thinking about it, wondering if I did too much.  Raise your hand if you can overwork a layout like nobody's business (raises hand).

The card is from the Jen Hadfield cut apart paper in the Gossamer Blue April Main Kit and I chose it because I love the colors and the saying; my girly is wearing a navy striped onesie in the photo and navy is a big favorite of mine for kiddos, so it was just perfect for what I wanted on the page.

I think a better choice would have been a softer patterned paper in the background, and I attempted to soften the colors by using texture paste through one of the Life Pages cut file exclusives from Gossamer Blue (I love that we get both the Main Kit and Life Pages cut files when you subscribe!), then layered on some gesso.

While I like this layout a lot, the embellishments I chose get a bit lost when you look at the page as a whole.

I won't rework this page, but wanted to share what I learned from making it:  1)  Use a smaller print for the background paper; white would have been a fab choice in this situation; 2)  Try to choose embellishments that will stand out yet won't detract from the photo;  3)  Not every layout needs mixed media ;)

I could have just shared this page, end of story.  But I think sharing my lessons learned is a great way for others to learn, too!  Thanks for stopping by today, hope your Monday is not a typical Monday!
